Privacy policy

This policy explains what information the TARA Labs website collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. It replaces the template text on the previous site, which described features (comments, logins and user accounts) that this site does not have.

Who we are

This website, taralabs.com, is run by TARA Labs, Inc., 716 Rossanley Dr., Medford, OR 97501, USA. You can reach us at customerservice@taralabs.com or 541-488-6465.

What we collect, and why

When you contact us. The contact form asks for your name, your email address and your message. Our web server emails them to us; the website itself does not store them. We use them to answer you, and keep the correspondence so we can follow up on your question, your system or a repair.

When you register a cable. The registration form asks for your name, email address, the cable’s type, model and serial number, the date of purchase and where you bought it. It reaches us by email in the same way, and we keep it as the record of your ownership for warranty service.

To keep spam out. When a form is sent, our server keeps a scrambled (hashed) form of the sender’s IP address for one hour, so it can turn away anyone who sends many messages in a short time.

When you use the Cable Finder. The components you enter stay in your browser. They are not sent to us.

When you join the loaner program. We ask by email for the details we need to ship and insure the loaner cables: your name, address, phone number, deposit method and audio system. We use them only for your loan.

Website analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the website is used: which pages are visited, how visitors arrive (for example from a search engine or a magazine’s link), roughly where in the world they are, and which kind of device and browser they use. Google Analytics uses cookies for this, and the information is processed by Google. It does not tell us who you are.

You can stop Google Analytics from collecting information about your visits with Google’s opt-out browser add-on (opens in a new tab), or by blocking cookies in your browser. Google explains how it uses this information in How Google uses information from sites that use its services (opens in a new tab).

Cookies

The TARA Labs website does not set cookies of its own. The cookies on it come from Google Analytics, described above, and from YouTube or Vimeo if you play a video. The site’s fonts, pictures and files are served from our own server.

Videos

Our videos are hosted by YouTube and Vimeo. Nothing is loaded from them until you choose to play a video; then the video plays in a window on our page, served by YouTube (in its privacy-enhanced mode) or Vimeo (with its “do not track” setting). From that point the video’s host receives information such as your IP address, and may set cookies, under its own privacy policy.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only when it is needed to do what you asked: for example, with an authorized TARA Labs dealer when you decide to buy a cable after a loan, or with a shipping company for a loan or a repair. Our web hosting company and our email provider handle form messages on our behalf, and Google processes the analytics described above. Like any website, our web host keeps routine server logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) to keep the site running and secure.

How long we keep it

We keep messages for as long as we need them to help you and for our business records. We keep cable registrations for as long as the warranty applies. Analytics information is kept by Google for the period set in our Google Analytics account.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing customerservice@taralabs.com. Deleting a cable registration removes the record of your ownership that warranty service relies on.

Children

This website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy
